Ask an Audiologist: Servicing Hearing Aids Purchased in Another Country
Sometimes people contact Hearing Solutions about receiving service or maintenance for hearing aids purchased outside of Canada.
What do you do? Can a hearing healthcare clinic in Canada help you?
Hearing Solutions Audiologist, Stephanie Loder, addresses the concerns of someone on another continent about programming hearing aids.
Ask an Audiologist
I’m from Sri Lanka and I bought a pair of GN Resound hearing aids. I want to know how I can program them.
Audiologist Response
Hello,
Thank you for your submission to Ask an Audiologist.
In Canada, hearing aids are typically programmed by registered Audiologists and/or Hearing Instrument Specialists after a hearing assessment is completed and a hearing aid is prescribed. Please keep in mind that hearing aids are medical devices that should be safe, comfortable and functional for the patient wearing them. The programming software for hearing aids is only available to health care professionals for this reason. Audiologists and Hearing Instrument Specialists are hearing health care professionals who are trained extensively in prescribing and dispensing hearing aids.
At Hearing Solutions, we normally offer a free hearing test and hearing aid evaluation where an Audiologist or Hearing Instrument Specialist would be happy to discuss this with you and answer any other questions you may have. The GN Resound brand of hearing aid is one that I’m familiar with. However, if it was purchased in Sri Lanka it may or may not be compatible with our programming software in Canada.
I hope that this information is helpful to you. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Loder, B.Sc., M.Cl.Sc., Reg. CASLPO Audiologist, Aud(C)
